The certificate for submariners today states:
"Having successfully completed the rigorous
professional requirements for qualification in submarines,
having gained a thorough knowledge of submarine
construction and operation, having demonstrated his
reliability under stress, and having my full
confidence and trust, I hereby certify that he is
Qualified in Submarines.
Sometimes these words are all but forgotten, however,
it is these words which differ from any other citation that
one receives in the Navy that makes it so special. It is
the process of this qualification that every single
submariner is required to do, that gives us a unique and
special bond.
